Alessandra Sáenz M.S.
I have a degree in psychology from the Universidad Iberoamericana. During my career I became very interested in eating disorders as I was still impacted by the death of Karen Carpenter in 1983 from anorexia. I didn't understand what could lead someone to develop anorexia, but I wanted to spare other people that suffering. That interest led me to do a diploma in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, a diploma in cognitive therapy for eating disorders and a course in cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of eating disorders. I have also been working with people with EDs since 2015.
In 2018, seeking to train myself to help others in a better way, I began studying my master's degree in cognitive behavioral therapy. I found it to be an evidence-based, highly effective model for many mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders that I fully trust. To complete my degree, I also did a diploma in schema therapy, which is also an evidence-based model with very good results for complex disorders.
Later, I realized that many of my patients had suffered due to some toxic relationship. So, in 2020, seeking to better help my patients, I began to train in toxic relationships (couple, family, work, etc.) and narcissism with one of the most recognized specialists worldwide on the subject.
I was also able to observe that almost all my patients have suffered some traumatic experience (from bullying to child abuse among others). Driven by a deep desire to help alleviate the suffering of others, I began my training in psychotraumatology in 2022, becoming certified as a clinical professional in psychological trauma levels 1 and 2. As part of my training, I have trained in IFS and EMDR. Both are highly effective and recognized evidence-based therapeutic models for the treatment of psychological trauma, which I have been able to corroborate in my professional experience.
